"Meet The iPod"
The iPod is small enough to fit in your pocket, comfortable enough to take on a routine run, and packs enough power to amplify a party. This tiny device has not only given music a face lift, it has restructured the multimedia industry. iPods are commonly used for recreation, but have recently expanded to the business world and beyond with the device’s many capable features.
iPods can be useful and fun for everyone from young children, to adults. There are a variety of different models to suite a variety of needs.
iPods are the innovative creation of Apple, one of the world’s leading suppliers in computer technology. The iPod made its debut in October, 2001 and has since outdone all rivals in the digital music industry, amassing more than 70 percent of market sales. With more than 100 million units sold, the iPod has become the number one selling digital music player.
iPod models range from the iPod Classic to the iPod Touch. Though small in size, these portable devices have more power and capability than your high-wattage stereo system or expensive DVD player. iPods have the capacity to hold anywhere from 240 to more than 40,000 songs. Although other companies have worked diligently to outdo the iPod, it still towers over the traditional MP3 player, with features such as extensive photo galleries, the latest music, exclusive music videos, and games. Apple also has used iPod technology to create more advanced products, such as the recently released iPhone.
Because the iPod is so tiny and compact, users might assume the device is susceptible to damange. Several tests have been conducted to rate the iPod’s durability. Although these challenges have included dropping the device from certain heights and other ridiculous stunts, the iPod continued to function properly. Even after enduring a washer machine cycle and allowed to dry for a few hours, the iPod boasted its usual power. .
The iPod has won many awards, from “Most Innovative Product” to the “Engineering Excellence” honor. It also ranked fourth in Best Computer Product for 2006.
The iPod’s easy-to-use interface and solid design have earned it rave reviews by the industry. To piggyback on Apple’s success, several other companies in the multimedia device industry are restructuring many of their products to integrate better with the iPod and iTunes.
In a very short time, the iPod has transformed the industry, and changed the way we listen to music, rendering previous devices such as the “Walkman” virtually obsolete. With more advanced iPod models being released at a frequent rate, older versions have become much more affordable. We have witnessed one of the most unique devices ever created - we have witnessed the “Portable Multimedia Revolution.”
