Can You Afford to Go Green?

More consumers and industries are trying to make the conscious effort to be more eco-friendly and go “green”.  Why?  Well, daily activities such as driving and computing release tons of harmful emissions into the air everyday.  As the population increases, so will the dependance on fossil fuels, electricity and other elements that impact the atmosphere.  The use of green or alternative energy is a way to offset this impact and hopefully reverse the damage.  Observers fear that fossil fuels will either be depleted from the earth entirely or lead to the extinction of the human race first.  When viewing it from that perspective, the use of green energy sources becomes a necessity.

What is Green Energy?

Green energy primarily refers to renewable energy derived from sources of a regenerative nature or those that generate after consumption.  Renewable energy produces far less greenhouse gases than fossil fuel and is therefore considered a much more practical alternative.  As the world increasingly grows environmentally conscience, numerous countries have decided to give tax breaks and other incentives to those in the private sector looking to use renewable energy.  The potential for alternative energy is tremendous as it has already been proven effective.  There is however, one major problem for the average consumer - price.

Popular Renewable Sources

Two sources commonly used to create renewable energy in the home setting are solar and wind power.  In the past, these sources were out of financial reach for most consumers.  However, awareness and the popularity of green energy has changed the landscape for the better.  With more resources available, consumers now have ways to effectively generate renewable energy for their homes at a much lower price.

As you would imagine, wind energy works best in areas that experience a significant amount of wind.  While this source of energy will not work for everyone, it can make a viable option in many situations.  For instance, you may want to use the wind power you accumulated on days where cloudy skies make your solar panels less effective.

Home-based solar energy systems are great for increasing the availability of the energy in your home.  Whether used in conjunction with wind energy or on its own, solar energy can deliver more than enough to power your entire household.   While the upfront investment is more expensive, using alternative energy will help you enjoy cost savings over the long run by dramatically reducing common utility fees.

Will You Make the Change?

Right now, the use of alternative energy is a personal preference but as the world carries on, it may become a priority.  So are you ready to step up and be a leader that others want to follow?  Will you be the first house on the block to power their home with solar panels?  We think you should definitely consider it as technology has advanced in a manner that puts these energy sources in much easier reach.  They are more widely available, affordable and comprehensive to the point where anyone with basic skills can install them.  Going 100% green is difficult and for some, impossible.  Be that as it may, every little step helps and what better place to start than your home?
